Connecting

A devotional for times of emotional, physical, or spiritual pain.

"'I am the Lord, and there is no other Savior. First I predicted your deliverance; I declared what I would do, and then I did it — I saved you. No foreign god has ever done this before. You are witnesses that I am the only God,' says the Lord. 'From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can oppose what I do. No one can reverse my actions — I am the Lord, who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea. I called forth the mighty army of Egypt with all its chariots and horses. I drew them beneath the waves, and they drowned, their lives snuffed out like a smoldering candlewick. But forget all that — it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do a brand—new thing. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness for my people to come home. I will create rivers for them in the desert! The wild animals in the fields will thank me, the jackals and ostriches, too, for giving them water in the wilderness. Yes, I will make springs in the desert, so that my chosen people can be refreshed.'" Isaiah 43:11—13, 16—20

Somewhere along the way, God's people walked away from His love and His way. Although their history was alive with the memories of His mighty hand — they walked away in unbelief. After years of dealing with these people as a nation, God was ready to do something different — He was going to set in motion His plan to be a personal Father to them. By sending His Son to light the way for the promised Holy Spirit, He would provide Living Water for their dry spells of discouragement and make personal connection with His people.

This devotional looks at how often God reached out for a relationship with His people. If you are a person who suffers rejection — get ready for the ride of your life. If you are a person who suffers alone — get ready for joy unspeakable. If you are a person who feels unloved — get ready to better know the One who is love!

God is moving in a mighty way — all across the earth. He is preparing His church — His bride — for His return. It is time to make the connection of hope to hurting people, and that includes you and me. God wants us to KNOW Him! He wants us to fall in love with Jesus Christ and in so doing, we will fall in love with our Creator. When we begin to recognize Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as being fully active and fully alive in our lives — we have connection — to genuine resurrection power!

Most of the time I will be using the New Living Translation of God's Holy Word. I often quote from several sources, "My Utmost for His Highest," Oswald Chambers; and "God Calling," A. J. Russell are the two I use most. I started writing devotionals while working for Prison Fellowship Ministries because I wanted to minister to the secretaries who were out in the field in offices all alone. It grew.

Please feel free to send in stories of how God has used people in your life to help you find "Jesus in the real world." May all the glory go to Him!

There truly is Hope in His Hands!

As one who is emerging from the kind of profound depression you describe in Day 23 of your devotions, I know full well the critical importance of helping one another in love. It's so easy to write off someone else's depression — you've heard all the cliches, I'm sure — and yet, in a sense, it's far easier to respond instead with the love and unconditional acceptance of the one who hurts that can, through the grace of God, be therapeutic and healing beyond words.
Many thanks for such an inspiring site.
