Divorce is not a Dirty Word

Week Four Day Two

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs I5:1

I honestly think this has to be one of the hardest things to do. I mean, most of us respond with total silence, or blurting something angry right back at someone who talks ugly to us. Yet, this Proverb says we are to answer gently?

Now, I don't think the implication is to answer in a condescending way, because no one likes to be "talked down" to. However, we are to speak with gentle understanding and compassion. If we respond back to an angry person with anger, pretty soon there is an out and out fight going on. Then, nothing good happens for sure.

If, on the other hand, we are able to listen with an ear of compassion, pretty soon the anger disappears, or at least they do.

My sixth grade teacher always taught that "two wrongs don't make a right." We cannot fight fire with fire. Divorce is hard enough without fights and ugly words. The quicker your emotions can be brought under control, the better off you will be.

Turn your anger over to the Lord. He knows how to deal with people much better than we do. Believe me, I know how His punishment and anger works. I had much rather be dealt with by Him.
