Divorce is not a Dirty Word

Week Seven Day Five

Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself or you also may be tempted. Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfi11 the law of Christ. If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, for each one should carry his own load. Galatians 6:1-5

As I read the first verse, I automatically thought again of the woman caught in adultery. Now, the men who entrapped her and brought her before Jesus did not want her restored, they wanted her condemned. We must not carry on that way. We should be in the ministry of restoration. But we are to "watch" or we may also be tempted. What exactly does this mean?

The act of forgiveness doesn't necessarily mean to place ourselves in the position of having the same thing done to us again. It simply means moving on, bringing closure to our pain. One of the basic needs of the human being is to be accepted. When we don't feel accepted it is harder to forgive. We want others to change to our expectations. Which brings us back to yesterday.

If we do not change internally, we bring about the snowball effect This brings about a sense of numbness within a person. One experience after the other builds up a callous in our soul over a long period of tine. The person becomes unconscious of life happening around them. They isolate themselves from any true communication. They take in a lot of information, but they don't process it. In turn, their soul eventually becomes like the Dead Sea.

If you aren't familiar with the Dead Sea, let me explain. The River Jordan runs into the Dead Sea, but there is no outlet. As the water evaporates it leaves behind salt, useless salt. Jesus said we are to become the "salt of the earth." However, if we are dead salt, we are useless salt. This happens when the life lessons we learn aren't applied to our everyday situations.

Give yourself a break today. Pay attention to what God is doing in your situation. Forgive yourself for any unforgiveness you may still have. Let God into all those dark places.
