Rev. 3:20-21; From the Message Bible; "Look at
me. I stand at the door. I knock.
If you hear me call and open the door, I'll come right in and sit down
to supper with you. Conquerors will sit alongside me at the head table, just as I, having
conquered, took the place of honor at the side of my Father. That’s my gift to
the conquerors!
As you
read about the Disciples of Jesus, you see that they were often used
mightily, but you also see the human side of them. The Lord has been
speaking to me about hearing lately. I learned today from the bible and
word studies that to hear literally means to obey.
In Mark 6:45-52; After Jesus had fed the 5000 they
moved on to the next event in their lives. Jesus sent the disciples off in
a boat, it says that He insisted that they go. That night a storm had
brewed up and Jesus could see the disciples struggling with the oars. So
there in the midst of their struggles they see Jesus walking across the
water. Did they rejoice? No, they screamed in fear thinking they had seen
a Ghost. Jesus was quick to comfort them and He climbed into the boat and
as soon as He did the wind died down. They were dazed and confused,
and found it hard to understand all that they had seen Jesus do, the word
had not yet “penetrated" their heart.
This is
not saying that their hearts were hardened against the word, it just
hadn't been able to penetrate into their understanding. They couldn't
apply it to their situation. They didn't remember or call to mind the
"power" that they had seen while Jesus feed the 5000.
Here are some of the thoughts that went through my
mind in my studies. First of all the scripture that goes through my mind
is found several places in Revelation about the different churches is
"He who has ears to hear, let Him hear what the Spirit has to
say to the churches."
(And
oh how we need to have ears to hear)! Next I thought of these types of hearing. It's funny how our physical life often parallels
with our spiritual life.
Hearing – as I said before hearing literally
means to obey. Obeying the word and obeying the prompting of the Holy
Spirit, but understand that what the Holy Spirit speaks to you will
“always” line up with the word of God.
Hard of hearing – A malfuntion in the ear
that hinders hearing, sometimes when there is noise in the background I
have a hard time understanding. But usally after thinking about it for a
minute it usually comes to me what was said. If not I have to hear it
again.
Hearing Aid – helps the hearing when the ears are weak in their
performance. Usually comes from outside help. Someone who wears a hearing
aid really wants to hear. Also, there have been times when a brother or
sister has been used to instruct in or remind me of what Gods word
says.
Selective hearing– Hearing what you want to hear. Or hearing only in part.
Sometimes my will gets in the way of willingness.
Tolerate –
Hearing but doing nothing about it. Letting someone talk out of
politeness.
I have read and studied the word but sometimes when I am going through something
I have no clue of what to do because I’ve "gone blank" as far as what Gods word says. I get caught
up in the panic and difficulties forgetting or being slow to perceive that he has
the power to deliver me. But then my wonderful Savior Jesus comforts me by climbing
onto the boat with me and calming the storm. There might still be a storm going on
around me but it fades into the background when I am in the presence of the Lord.
I just need to remember that the power of His presence is with me even if I am
off on a boat and last I saw of Him He was on the shore waving bye, bye, I'll see
you later!
Lord I thank You that You are never too late, thank you that you are always right on
time!
