Is God Your Refuge?
Poor and needy here is a place that we’ve all come to some time or
other. Poor not in the sense of having little money, but
poor in the sense of being depressed because of being afflicted. When
everything is weighing heavily on us.
Needy as in feeling destitute and desperate to have someone
acknowledge that your there and accepted wanting attention. I like that
word require that the
amplified uses. Because it says to me that in order for me to be
comforted, to be at peace, to feel security, my spirit requires the Lord
and nothing else will bring satisfaction.
Sometimes when going thru
difficult circumstances it feels like God is no where to be found. The
Psalmist in 77:7-9; expresses deeply how I’ve felt on occasion. God have
you cast me off and abandoned me, I’m all alone here! Help God! Get me out
of this mess I’m in! Do Your promises no longer apply to me? God are You
mad at me? I’m sorry Lord, what can I do to make it right?
Have you ever felt
somewhat this way? God wants us to trust in Him through the bad times as
well as the good. Its easy to “feel like God loves us when things are
going right; easy because we don’t rely on faith when we’re at ease. It
takes faith that only God gives for us to trust in Him through the
hard times, dark times, drought times, fiery times. He wants
to be a refuge, for us in times of trouble.
What do you turn to when
times are rough. What do you turn to when you want to feel comforted?
To feel secure? To feel justified? How often have you let sin be that
which you run to as a refuge instead of making God your
refuge?
Did you know that you can
take something that is good and because you turn to “it” instead of God,
that it becomes sin, or an idol? Faith at times can be illusive, I say
this because sometimes we get off course and don’t even realize it until
we find ourselves in difficult situations, and realize that we’ve been
trusting in our own strength or even in the strength of others. Or in
something else to sooth our feathers and calm our fears.
When you look at it like
this it is easier to understand how someone can become a drug addict
or an alcoholic. You realize how easy it is to become addicted to whatever
it is that brings comfort to our souls.

Pet 5:7; (Amplified version) Casting the whole of your care [all your
anxieties, all you worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him,
for He cares affectionately, passionately and watchfully for you.
Father I pray that today
You will be my refuge that you will gather me under the shadow of your
wings and hide me Lord. I pray Lord that I will rest in You and find
security in knowing that You care about me and are training me up to be
victorious. Thank You Lord for showing me Your truths and making my path
straight.
In His Love, Karen
