To Be Right

In Matt 11:19b & Lk 7:30 wisdom is shown to be right by what results from it. Those who “followed” wisdom were the followers of Jesus and John. These followers lived changed lives. Their righteous living demonstrated the wisdom that Jesus and John taught.

Have you ever done something in obedience to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Only to be accused of being guilty of some atrocity that is far from the truth. In a one sense it is laughable, only it isn’t funny because folks tend to believe the accusations.

For John the Baptist didn’t drink wine and he often fasted, and you say, ‘He’s demon possessed.’ And I, the Son of Man, feast and drink, and you say, ‘He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of the worst sort of sinners!’  But wisdom is shown to be right by the lives of those who follow. Matthew 11:18-19

Jesus was perfect, yet they accused him falsely. John lived a righteous life and they said he was demon possessed. When you walk in the light and do what is right in the sight of the Lord, it gets to feeling uncomfortable for those watching you, if they’re not walking in the light also.

Religion or rather a religious spirit hates to see you walk uprightly. It wants the life of the Spirit of God in you to be quenched. True freedom in the Spirit is righteous and holy. Not given to ungodly desires as some would interprete this to mean. Freedom is not given to us so that we can fulfill our lustful desires but rather we’re given the freedom to live victorious lives without the incumbrense of sin weighing us down. The followers of Jesus and John followed after wisdom, thay sat under Jesus teaching and because of this their lives were changed. Therefore their righteous living demonstrated the wisdom that they’d been taught.

In Amos it talks about a plumb line. God tests His people with this plumb line. I tried my hand at putting some wallpaper up one day. I’d watched a friend put some up and I’d thought to myself that I could handle that. Well I didn’t have a plumb line but I did have a level. When you look at a wall by itself it looks pretty straight. But you will often find out how crooked they are when you see it measured against something that is truly straight. If I had put that paper on according to my eye view it would have come out crooked and it would have had to be torn down and done over again. It’s not the accusations of some that we line up our lives (that’s condemnation) but it is God's Word that is the plumb line that helps us be aware of our sin. For when we see the truth in the life of Christ, (the “life” that our lives are supposed to line up with) our paths are directed (made straight).

Father in many ways I can see that my life doesn’t line up with Your word, I pray Lord that you will not abandon me, but that you will strengthen me and enable me to be who you’ve called me to be. I love You Lord, You are my strength and my song. I pray for those who are searching for answers to their problems, that they would know that Jesus is the answer. Give ears to hear and heed your voice.
