"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed,
for His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
Lamentations 3:22-23

Okay, we've made it through the first half of a new year. What did you resolve to do this year that you have already backed out on? How many resolutions have you broken and decided that they will just have to wait for another year? Well, it's not too late you know!

I'll be the first to admit that I have never done well with New Year's resolutions. I decided to remedy that several years ago I stopped making any! Yet, we all need to have some type of goals in our lives, something to strive for. These goals could range anywhere from getting along better with co-workers or family members to getting a new car or house. However, there will be many times that we don't reach those goals, at least not within the time frame we expected. It then becomes easy to brand ourselves a failure and give up on life. Why does this happen? Because our faith is in the wrong place!

Many years ago I set a goal for myself to be in a position to retire by the age of 55. But many things transpired that I did not foresee; divorce, remarriage, children moving back home, children with financial needs. Then add to that some bad decisions I made, along with a mortgage company that blindsided me on a financial need, and I may never be able to retire. However, that doesn't make me a failure. One only becomes a failure when they decide to give up, and I'm not ready to do that!

I have had to make many monumental decisions just in the last 5 or 6 years. Some of those decisions were made in haste and turned out to be wrong. Others, however, were made after much prayer and thought and have never been regretted, even though at times there seemed to be added burdens because of them. As I look back now, I see that when I have put my faith in myself, it has caused heartache and pain. Yet, when I trust in God's leadership, things eventually work out well. I am finally beginning to see the real truth in the verse above which Jeremiah wrote so many years ago.

How about you? Are you tired of making bad decisions based on what you think and feel at the moment? Join with me and let us seek God's leadership for every choice we need to make. He won't beat us up for the bad choices we made in the past, for His compassion is new every morning. Great is His faithfulness!
