God is my shield,
saving those whose hearts are true and right.
God
is a judge who is perfectly fair.
He is angry with the wicked every day.
If a person does not repent,
God will sharpen his sword;
he will
bend and string his bow.
He will prepare his deadly weapons
and ignite
his flaming arrows.
The wicked conceive evil;
they are pregnant with
trouble
and give birth to lies.
They dig a pit to trap others
and
then fall into it themselves.
They make trouble,
but it backfires on
them.
They plan violence for others,
but it falls on their own heads.
I will thank the Lord because he is just;
I will sing praise to the name
of the Lord Most High.
Psalm 7:10-17
God looks in our heart…He knows our heart. Scripture reminds us that our hearts are desperately wicked. We often do not even know our own heart that is why we need the Holy Spirit to examine us.
Many times my daughter has tried to straighten up her life. She has been baptized at least three times, but all the water in the world cannot make a person saved or lead them to repentance ¾ it's a heart thing! Therefore, when she confessed to God and us that she had lied to Him and everyone else in her life, she didn't just apologize ¾ she repented. She was genuinely sorry.
As we enter into worship this morning, we need to give the Holy Spirit permission to examine our heart and lead us to repentance. He will. Then, we can truly sing praise and give God the thanks He deserves.
Father, we praise You and thank You for the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. Thank You for not leaving us alone in this world. We know that You are in us, with us, and that You will lead us to repentance! We hunger to sing praise to You with a thankful heart because it is a heart thing!
