WHERE ARE YOU?

Toward evening they heard the LORD God walking about in the garden, so they hid themselves among the trees. The LORD God called to Adam, "Where are you?"
Genesis 3:8-9

Most people with children have experienced moments when we missed them and wondered where they were. In those moments we panic because of the unknown, but in today's passage, God knew full well where Adam and Eve were — He simply wanted them to know.

One of the first games children learn to play is "hide and seek." Hiding from each other so they can be found seems to be really fun for them. Unfortunately, for a few — they aren't very good "hiders." They tend to "hide" out in the open. At least that is the way it is with Cody and Austin. Cody is great for finding places to hide. He had a good teacher — his mother. However, Austin just doesn't seem to get it. He just goes somewhere and sits — waiting for Cody to come. Sometimes he even lets him know where he is.

Isn't that they way it is with some of us? We know how to hide from people — internally. We don't want them to know what we really look like on the inside, so we put on a false front and hide our true personalities. Yet, God knows.

Then, there are those of us who want to hide, but we just can't seem to get the knack of things and who we are just remains out there in the open for people to see. At times, if they don't see us we draw attention to ourselves so they will.

When God calls us it is not a good thing to try to hide ourselves. He knows right where we are. We are to stay close enough to Him to know where we are and not be tempted to stray.

Father, lately I see that too many times I look at the work You have called me to do and forget to just simply look at You and enjoy Your presence. Like Adam and Eve, I try to cover myself in Your presence because I feel ashamed for one thing or the other. I thank you and praise you for Your Word that cuts through my flesh and convicts and feeds Your Spirit within me. Feed me your hope today so that I, in turn, can feed others. I love you Lord!

Hope you were encouraged.
