Adam slept with his wife again. She had a son whom she named Seth. She said,
"God has given me another child in place of Abel whom Cain killed." And then
Seth had a son whom he named Enosh.
That's when men and women began praying
and worshiping in the name of GOD.
Genesis
4:25-26
Well, we all know Mrs. Eve wasn't very wise, but according to this passage of scripture, she had hope.
Now, my sister, Carolyn, who died an untimely death at the age of 53, had a husband that got on my nerves — a lot! He was one of those people who loved to pick the Bible apart. Oh, he claimed to be a Christian, but…the book of Genesis was one of the books he just loved to ask me questions about, and this is one of the sections he choose. He wanted to know where the "men and women" came from.
I'm no theologian, but I personally feel that more than likely God created more people than just Adam and Eve. He simply selected them to write about. Now, that's just one theory. However, I believe it is justified. If you go back to verse 15, Cain is quite worried that someone will kill him as he wanders around on the face of the Earth. However, God placed a mark on him to protect him and let him know that if anyone should harm him that person would suffer "seven times."
Of course, we're getting away from my point for today, but sometimes we have to do that. It was after Seth had a son that the human race began worshiping God. Think about it. Prior to that, what did they do? Had they not worshiped Him? Awesome! What was there about Enosh that caused folks to start worshiping God? Makes you wonder don't it?
Children have a way of leading us to the Lord. Just the joy of loving them and their complete innocence drives us straight to Him. At least that's the way it is with me. On the other hand, there are those moments when they drive me crazy too. However, there is nothing on this earth that has brought me closer to the realization of God than the birth of a child.
Maybe Mr. Seth just fell into a state of worship when Enosh was born and it was contagious. I don't know, but I do know this. When Jessica was born and I observed it through a mirror I was amazed enough to worship. I felt the same when I observed each grandchild being born. Maybe that's why we call January "Sanctity of Human Life Month."
Every life is precious. Some have been broken and torn apart, but they are still precious. It is up to us to help them find hope. Oh, that we will get busy and do our job.
Father, we adore You. Help us take that love and use it to reach out to those who have been bruised and confused. We thank You for helping more and more young women choose life instead of abortion. Now, help us help them with these babies as they face even harder choices. Give us the grace to baby sit and buy clothes, diapers, and even toys. We need You Lord!
