Leah became pregnant and had a son. She named him Reuben (Look-It's-a-Boy!).
"This is a sign," she said, "that God has seen my misery; and a sign that now my
husband will love me."
Genesis 29:32
Well, this is an all too familiar theme isn't it? However, in today's world it usually happens before a person is married.
Let me run this story by you quickly. Jacob went to his father's relatives to find a wife. He did, but poor thing his chosen love's father tricked him and he ended up having to work for years to get her because the old man substitute the first born daughter on the wedding night. On top of that, the lovely Rachael was barren ¾ and broken hearted. Her mean sister Leah loved taunting her about too.
Anyhow, for the point of today's devotional…
Too many times we think that it's something that we do, something that we have to offer someone that will make them love us. That is the way Satan works. He manipulates. He schemes. He likes twisting things around and getting us stuck in evil plots and unbalanced relationships. Fortunately, God always has a plan B!
Jacob managed to get away from this evil place and come out on top. Rachel had children of her own. I would like to say the story had a happy ending, but that isn't always God's way.
If your life is like my life, and most of our lives are that way, there are moments of happiness along the way, but there are no truly happy endings. Yes, Heaven will be wonderful. We will praise God on His throne and dance with the angels! That gives us hope. That is hope. Yet, how can it really be a "happy ending" when we know of so many people who won't be there? Yes, it will be their choice and we have to accept that. Guess I'm just a realist ¾ that also holds on to hope ¾ that doesn't believe in happy endings.
Father, I just love You and I love Your Word. I thank You for allowing it to be so ¾ real. I thank You for Jacob's love for Rachel and how he loved her no matter what and worked for her no matter what came against him. Let that love continue to be an example for young people until Jesus returns. We love You Lord. Thank You for loving us so much.
