In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was
empty, a formless mass cloaked in darkness. And the Spirit of God was hovering
over its surface. Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was
light. And God saw that it was good. Then he separated the light from the
darkness.
Genesis 1:1-4
As I told you before, New Year's Day is my favorite day of the year. It always opens to us a clean slate, and fresh hope for our future! Well, this year it wasn't so wonderful, I mean it started out okay, but my youngest daughter did something that totally disappointed me and started my new year out badly. On top of that I ended up with a cold that was almost the flu and ended up in bed almost unable to move. I'm totally allergic to the change in seasons and living in Alabama ¾ well, do I need to say more?
Nevertheless, I decided I was going to start over myself, on this Saturday night, January 5, and let it be my own personal New Year's Eve. Tomorrow is my New Year's Day (minus black-eyed peas etc.). This is just an emotional thing. However, the one thing I am going to do different is the devotionals, like I had originally planned. I'm going through all my oldies and pulling out the goodies of sort of "Book of the Month" and using them. This month will be Genesis. I hope you will enjoy! You comments are always welcomed, and as you know…are often posted.
In the beginning, there was nothing. I love the way Dr. Eugene Peterson
describes it in, The Message (which I will be using from time to time this
year):
"Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky
blackness. God's Spirit brooded like a bird above the watery abyss." Genesis

like soup! God created the entire universe ¾ one day at a time. Sometimes that's the way we have to take it ¾ one day at a time. He's there. He is recreating us in the image of His Son ¾ one day at a time. There is hope in that. Yep! There is definitely hope in that! Have a Happy New Year and hold on until tomorrow! The best is yet to come.Father, I thank You and I praise You for creating me and recreating me in the image of Your Son even though at times I have kicked and screamed along the way. Forgive me for my shortcomings and help me to be today all that I can be to please You. Feed me the hope and the strength I need to make it through so I can wake up in the morning and offer again a sacrifice of praise. I love You Lord, please help me love You more.
