God spoke: "Light!"
And light appeared.
God saw that light was good and separated light from dark.
God named the light Day, he named the dark Night.
It was evening, it was morning—Day One.
Genesis 1:3-5 (The
Message)
Light, where would we be without it? Of course, God could have created us in such a way that we wouldn't need light, but…well that's way too much speculation isn't it? Let's just stick with what we know.
In a world full of darkness and chaos, God recognized the need for light and, in Dr. Peterson's version, He simply stated, "Light," and there was light! Hallelujah! Oh, how the world needs more light! We don't need more light from the sun; we need more light from the Son!
Children amaze me, granted they get on my nerves, but they never cease to amaze me. One day Cody and I were driving (he was about four then) and we were just talking about all kinds of things. His logic is overwhelming; out of the blue he simply said, "Jesus has so many houses and things up in Heaven, that's why He sent some down here for us. He gets tired of looking at the same old houses up there."
Now, wouldn't that be nice? Talk about light…that little bit of "logic" added a little bit of light in my life that day, not the light of the sun, but the light of the Son's humor and I do feel it came straight from Him!
It's a brand new year. We need to do all we can to put last year's woes behind us and focus on what it is God wants to do in and through us in this coming year. Maybe the best place to start is in His house!
Father, we thank You and praise You for this New Year ahead of us. We know there will be opportunities for joy and pain and we pray that we will glorify you through it all.
