WHERE ARE THE GODLY?

Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing!
The faithful have vanished from the earth!
Neighbors lie to each other,
speaking with flattering lips and insincere hearts.
May the Lord bring their flattery to an end and silence their proud tongues.
They say, "We will lie to our hearts' content.
Our lips are our own—who can stop us?"
Psalm 12:1-4

What does a godly person look like? I used to think a godly person had a clear complexion, was a certain body weight, and had no flaws. Boy was I wrong!

I will never forget the day of October 15, 1975. I woke up with a hangover (as usual). Mother insisted I go to the grocery store for her. I did. When I got home we heard a car drive up. Mother peeked out the window and saw two ladies walking up on the deck with Bibles. As she headed to her sewing room she said, "Get rid of them."

Well, with my bartender vocabulary in tact, I answered the door. I recognized one lady, she had visited mother with her husband when he came to do some work several weeks earlier and I had even visited their church, but I was extremely uncomfortable, the people were way friendly. Anyhow, these two ladies were nice, had an answer for every question I popped, and before they left I was on my knees praying the sinner's prayer.

The next morning I jumped up out of bed, ran to the bathroom, turned on the light, and looked in the mirror. Needless to say, I was disappointed. My complexion was the same. Nothing outwardly had changed, but let me tell you ¾ everything on the inside was totally different.

There isn't a certain physical appearance for a godly person. They are simply people who love as God loves ¾ no matter the cost. They don't talk out of both sides of their mouth. They do what they say and say what they do (although this lesson may take years and years for most of them).

Don't you just hate it when someone tells you they are going to do something and then they don't? They tell you one thing to your face and then as soon as your back is turned they start singing a different song? Well, apparently this has always been a problem and will continue to be a problem until Jesus returns.

We need to learn that we are not our own. We were bought with a price. We have a purpose to serve. We are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, body, and soul, and the way we do this is by loving our neighbor as ourselves. That is one of the major elements in telling our stories. How can we share if we have no one to share with?

Let us make a vow to love Him so radically that we become contagious. There is a world full of hurting people ¾ hungry to know Jesus, but they afraid to come to Him because so many people claiming to be His push them, and sometimes even Him, aside. God wants to rescue the perishing and the hurting, and He wants to use you to do it. Are you ready to be used?

Father, if we face the truth, we have to face the fact that we have not loved our neighbor as You asked us to do. In fact, too many of us don't even know our neighbor. Help us repent of our sin and trust You to, free us from our fears, and pour out Your power on us to love as You first loved us. Hallelujah! Amen!

Hope you were encouraged.
