LIFE HAPPENS

The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear it if the spirit is crushed?
Proverbs 18:14

We live in a fallen world. As a result people will get sick from time to time. Oh, I know there are people who say that we never have to get sick if we are walking with the Lord believing for our health and prosperity. I have to disagree!

In my twenty-five years as a Christian I have seen some true saints of God die from cancer and other horrible sicknesses. In his book, When God Doesn't Make Sense, Dr. James Dobson tells the story of a young man he knew personally that was an awesome Christian young man, was accepted into a medical school program that was difficult to get into, then discovered that he had cancer, and died.

Dr. Dobson's question was if God is Sovereign (and we believe He is), why would He have allowed this young man to get a position in that medical school knowing he was going to die. Well, Dr. Dobson really had no answer except that the young man's fiancé ended up studying in place of the young man.

Well, now that I've said all of that, let me say that back when we had the coffeehouse, I got a sinus infection. At least I assumed that is what I had. As I continued doing all the things I was obligated to do I got weaker and it went into my chest. I neglected my housework and simply focused on what I needed to do for the ministry. It wasn't long until my very spirit began to be crushed because I felt like such a failure.

Well, praise God the night the coffeehouse reopened He renewed my strength. He lifted my spirit as I watched Him move in the lives of the people who shared that night. He sent two people that night who are very special to me; my oldest child and a lady named Melanie Daily. You see, only God knew they would be there.

My daughter, Michelle, is hearing-impaired. Melanie Daily is anointed interpreter of music. God led her to organize a group of musical interpreters and they were at the coffeehouse that night. Talk about God showing up! Wow!

So, to my point; if you know someone who is the slightest bit sick…please don't condemn them for their lack of faith when life happens to them. Come along beside them and encourage them through prayer and your friendship. They will be better able to endure the sickness without getting weak in their spirit if they know you care!

Lord, please forgive us for judging one another when it comes to sickness. Help us to simply love and pray for each other when life happens all around us. In the process we will be obeying You and growing closer as the family of God!

Hope you were encouraged.
Please come back often.
